183/365/Books

“How many books do you think are in this house?” Alison asks me.

“Between 5,000 and 10,000?” I hazard, an extreme range, I realize.

“I was going to guess 7,000,” she says.

I think of glass jars of jellybeans or gumballs, guessing contests, wondering if there is a practical way to get at that number.

  1. I'm hoping that you find out there is a treasure somewhere buried in there. Only seems fair.

  2. Like the jellybean jars I don't know if I could guess what 7000 books would look like.

  3. I've purged enough of my own books to know that 100 books doesn't really look like all that many.

  4. Books would be the only thing I wouldn't mind not purging.

  5. I'm with Kim. I've sold a lot* of books on Amazon and eBay. My late husband's chemical engineering books were the first ones I sold. Most went in the $30-50 range, and that encouraged me. It adds up. I wish I'd saved the kids' old Golden Books.

*a lot is a relative term
