I said “My sister is a saint,” then explained all that she’s been doing for my parents because she knows how to navigate the care systems. My bar mate, the 3-month caretaker of her father who’d just lost him, said “It means a lot that you’d say that about your sister. We need to hear that.”

  1. Your sister is a saint. My brother took my mom into his home which was wonderful for mom. I know it must have been really hard on him.

  2. Your sister is no doubt a saint. And I dread to think of what happens when people don't have access to these saintly system navigators/advocates.

  3. How nice that you said that. My relationship with my sister changed enormously the first time I properly thanked her for everything she was doing at the time for my mother. It would be nice to hear that now myself. (Yes, I know I'm jumping the gun for Whining/Complaining month, but why stop now?)

  4. My mother-in-law took on that role for her elderly parents, as the only one located nearby. Everyone else made the trip when they could, but even though they acknowledged that it was all falling to her, I don't think they every really appreciated how it took over her life.
