And indeed, that is what the book is: not fly patterns, but patterns of sexual behavior. And I wonder how many copies of these were printed, and how many of those, like this one, got away.

    Most interesting! Maybe this was some publishing strategy to allow people to read the book in public without feeling embarrassed?

  3. I truly believe it was a printer's mistake. No one's going to emboss a spine when they can just trade dust jackets. Edson's book was a big deal, and one can easily find the other online as well with its real dust jacket!
